PixelPop

A little display. A lot of personality.

A 64×32 LED matrix that rotates through the pages you leave on, with a settings site on your own Wi-Fi and an iPhone app that paints straight onto the panel.

The display

Small panel. Rotating cast.

PixelPop is a HUB75 LED matrix, 64 pixels wide and 32 tall. It is not a sign with one message. It takes turns through the functions you switch on, in the order you drag them into.

PixelPop Companion

Paint on the panel from your iPhone.

Companion is the iOS paint app. While Paint is open, the matrix pauses its usual rotation and mirrors the canvas live, one pixel on the phone to one LED. When you leave, the pages come back on their own.

Draw tones

A stroke can have a sound. Draw tones play while you paint, so the sketch is something you hear as well as something the LEDs show.

Same pixels

The canvas is the panel's own 64×32 grid. What you draw is what the matrix lights up, not a photo shrunk down after the fact.

Illustration of the 64×32 canvas. Not a photograph of the display.

Already nearby

Open the display you have.

Settings live on the matrix itself, on your Wi-Fi.

  1. 1

    Join it the first time

Power on. If it has no network yet, it opens a setup Wi-Fi named PixelPop. Connect, pick your 2.4 GHz network, and enter the password.

  2. 2

    Open the settings site

Once it connects, the panel shows its address for a few seconds. Open that in a browser, or go to pixelpop.local from a device on the same Wi-Fi. The name follows whatever you set on the display.

  3. 3

    Or let Companion find it

On the same network, PixelPop Companion looks for boards nearby and paints on the one you pick.

Open pixelpop.local Works only on the same Wi-Fi as the display.
